Preparation Checklist

Why Wait After Brushing?

To reduce contamination from toothpaste, food debris, and mouth bacteria. This ensures we collect pure epithelial cells for accurate genetic analysis.

How to Collect Your Sample

Step 1

Tear the seal and open the swab collection kit.

Step 2

Open the tube by pushing the upper part of the cap.

Step 3

Place the swab inside your mouth on your tongue for 10 seconds to moisten the swab.

Without removing the swab from your mouth, repeat step 4 on the opposite cheek.

Step 6

Place the swab back into the tube and close it tightly.

Step 7

Label the tube with your name, IC number and the date of swab collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start?

Instructions are provided inside the kit and in the video above. For optimal sample collection, follow these steps:

  • Brush your teeth at least 30 minutes (preferably within 1 hour) before using the buccal swab.
  • Avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking, or using mouthwash after brushing.
Why must I brush my teeth and wait 30 minutes before swabbing?

Brushing removes food particles, bacteria, and other debris that could contaminate your DNA sample. We have validated that waiting 30 minutes after brushing allows toothpaste residues to dissipate and loose debris/dead cells to be naturally cleared, ensuring a clean and accurate collection of the individual’s epithelial cells for testing.

What happens if I forget to wait 30 minutes after brushing my teeth?

If you collect your sample too soon after brushing, toothpaste residue may contaminate the swab. To ensure accurate results, it is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before collecting.

Can I drink water before taking the test?

Yes, but only small amounts of plain water. Avoid sugary, flavored, or carbonated drinks as they may interfere with your DNA sample.

When will my report be ready, and how can I check it?

Your report will be available within 4 to 6 weeks. You will receive email and SMS notifications once it’s ready.

  • Where to check? Log in to the PreciseEHR app, available on iOS and Android, to access and download your report.
Can I get a physical copy of my report?

Yes, but a hardcopy report is available upon request with an additional surcharge. Please notify our authorized healthcare partner if you prefer a printed version.

Where is my test analyzed?

All samples are processed at Global Precision Diagnostics, an award-winning laboratory that strictly complies with ISO 15189 and CAP standards to ensure accurate and reliable results.

Can I use a blood sample instead of a buccal swab?

Yes! If you prefer a blood sample, you can arrange a blood draw appointment. Fasting is not required for this alternative method.

What if I accidentally eat or drink before collecting my sample, should I brush my teeth again?

Yes, we are sorry, you will need to brush teeth again. This step is important to maintain the accuracy and reliability of your DNA results.

How should I store and return my sample?

Once collected, place the swab securely back into the provided container. Store at room temperature, avoid direct sunlight and return it using the prepaid shipping label as soon as possible.

Can children or elderly individuals do the buccal swab themselves?

Yes! The buccal swab collection is non-invasive and safe for all age groups, including children and elderly individuals. Assistance may be required for younger children or individuals with limited dexterity.

What happens if my sample is rejected?

In rare cases, if a sample is contaminated or insufficient, we will notify you to retake the test at no extra charge. Follow the collection instructions carefully to avoid rejection.

How long can I keep my sample before returning it?

For best results, return your sample within 24 to 48 hours after collection. If delayed, store it in a room temperature, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Can I take the test if I am sick?

If you have a cold, sore throat, or any oral infection, it is best to wait until you recover before collecting your sample. This ensures the quality and accuracy of your DNA results.

Can I take the test if I am pregnant?

Yes! Pregnancy does not affect your genetic makeup, so the test remains accurate and reliable.

Can I take the test if I have dental work or wear braces?

Yes! However, if you have recently had oral surgery, dental cleaning, or extractions, wait at least 7 days before collecting your sample to avoid contamination from blood or medication.

Can I share my buccal swab kit with someone else?

No, each buccal swab kit is designed for individual use only. If multiple people in your household need testing, each person must use a separate buccal swab kit.

Is my DNA sample confidential?

Yes! We prioritize strict confidentiality and strictly follow data privacy regulations to protect your genetic information. Your results are encrypted, securely stored and only accessible to you.

Can I cancel my test after purchasing?

If your buccal swab kit is unused and unopened, you may request a refund within our stated return policy period. Please contact our support team for assistance.
