Quick answers about PRECISE buccal swab collection, preparation, and what to do with your sample.

What is PRECISE buccal swab collection?

PRECISE buccal swab collection means gathering cells from the inside of your cheek with the swab in your collection kit. The sample provides the DNA needed for a pharmacogenomics test or a nutrigenomics test.

Is a buccal swab painful?

No. A buccal swab is painless and gentle. You press lightly on your cheek and swab firmly, with no needles and no blood draw.

Can children complete a buccal swab?

Yes. The method suits adults and children. A parent or guardian can read the steps aloud and help the child follow each one, including the preparation checklist.

How long should I wait after brushing my teeth?

Brush your teeth at least 30 minutes before PRECISE buccal swab collection, and ideally within 1 hour. After brushing, avoid eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking, and mouthwash until you finish the swab.

How many times do I swab each cheek?

Swab 30 times firmly in an up and down motion on the inside of one cheek. Keep the swab in your mouth, then repeat on the opposite cheek.

What should I write on the sample tube?

Write your name, IC number, and the date of collection. If you have several swab tubes, label each tube separately.

What do I do with the sample after collection?

Place the tube into the medical biohazard bag, seal the bag, and return it to your healthcare provider. Return the completed Request and Consent Form to your provider before the swab collection.
